Rethinking traditional assessments isn't just about changing formats—it's about embracing diverse approaches that accommodate different skills and learning styles. This session explores how to design authentic and scaffold assessments that allow space for practice, feedback, and revision. We'll also discuss how to make assignment instructions transparent and provide clear rubrics to ensure all* students understand what is expected of them, promoting a fair and inclusive learning environment.
This session will run for 45 minutes, with an additional 15 minutes reserved for questions.

Rachel Weiher (she/her) is the Equitable Assessment Consultant in the Center for Teaching and Learning. She completed her Ph.D. in Romance Languages & Literatures here at UC Berkeley and taught language and linguistics courses in the Department of French. Now, as part of the CTL’s Inclusive Teaching Team, Rachel’s work focuses primarily on equity-minded teaching practices (particularly assessment), student-centered pedagogies, social justice, and pedagogies of care. |
