Import the DLS Core Template

Canvas Commons is a repository of digital resources that allows users to share and import content into a course site. The DLS Core Template is available in Canvas Commons to UC Berkeley users in the Instructor, TA, or Designer roles.

Follow the steps below to import the template to your new course site.

1. Open Commons

In the Global Navigation, select Commons.

2. Find Resource

Enter "DLS Core Template" in Search bar.

3. Open Resource

To view the DLS Core Template details, select the resource title.

4. Import Resource

To import the DLS Core Template, select the Import/Download button.

5. Select Course, Select Import into Course

Search for the course into which you would like to import the DLS Core Template or select the course from the list. Then, select the Import into Course button.

6. View Import Notification

View the import status notification at the top of your screen.

7. Replace Course Site Icon on the Dashboard

After importing the template, you'll notice that the DLS icon image is part of your new course on the bCourses Dashboard card view. Go to the course navigation and select Settings to remove the DLS image and replace it with one of your own or leave it blank. Then select the Update Course Details button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

Notes

Importing a course more than once may have unintended consequences. If you import content into a new course, edit the content in the new course, and later import the previous content again, the imported content will override the existing content.

Importing the Core Template will overwrite any content you have entered on the Syllabus page so it is recommended that you import the template before you populate the Syllabus page in your course site.
