Pronouns in bCourses launching Spring 2026
As part of the Gender Recognition and Lived Name Policy, starting with the Spring 2026 semester, pronouns will display for users in bCourses who have opted to share them. Pronouns are sourced from official campus systems of record (CalCentral and/or UC Path) and will automatically be updated in bCourses in the same way that lived names are synced.

If you opt to share them, pronouns in bCourses will display after your name in various areas of the site, including: Course Sections List, Discussions, Inbox, People page, User Profile page, and User Settings page. Pronouns in bCourses will not currently display in Speedgrader or the Gradebook.
How to update your pronouns in your system of record
Instructors, staff, and students who set their pronouns in an official campus system of record (CalCentral or UCPath) will have their pronouns displayed in bCourses. Selecting pronouns in these systems is optional; if you do not select your pronouns, then pronouns will not display in bCourses.
Instructors and Staff
Instructors and Staff can modify their pronouns in UC Path: Follow the instructions on the Pronouns In UCPath page
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students can modify their pronouns in CalCentral: Follow the instructions under the “How do I update my Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation, and/or Pronouns?” section
Graduate Students
Graduate students may need to follow the instructions above to change their pronouns in both systems (CalCentral and UC Path)
