Peerceptiv is a peer collaboration tool designed to enhance student engagement by facilitating peer review and team member evaluation assignments and is now available for all UC Berkeley classes. Through Peerceptiv, students give and receive actionable feedback on assignments, which supports learning for both the giver and receiver of feedback. This peer assessment technology improves writing and critical thinking skills by engaging students in the role of the teacher.
In this live session, you will hear directly from Christine Gehrig-Downie–lecturer in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, & Management–on how she has used Peerceptiv in her courses. You will also:
- Explore various ways Peerceptiv peer assessment is used to increase student engagement and reduce grading time.
- Learn how it integrates with bCourses
- Understand how to set up an assignment in bCourses and in Peerceptiv, enabling you to add peer review to an existing or new assignment in your course.
This session will run for 45 minutes, with an additional 15 minutes reserved for questions.

Becca provides support to the campus for various online academic technologies including bCourses, Gradescope, Peerceptiv, and online course evaluations and is committed to enhancing the faculty and student experience through innovative uses of technology. |

Catherine McChrystal (she/her) is the Learning Tools Team Lead and lead administrator for bCourses. In this role, she works to understand instructor needs to influence service improvement projects for supported academic technologies. She holds a master's degree in Educational Technology and is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Learning & Instruction. Prior to joining RTL, she served as an instructional designer at UC Berkeley and as the training program lead for the YouTube Policy team. |

Christine Gehrig-Downie, Ph.D. is a lecturer in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, & Management. She is a passionate educator dedicated to fostering a deep appreciation for the natural world and inspiring action on environmental challenges. Drawing from her experiences exploring diverse ecosystems, she envisions a future where generations continue to marvel at nature’s beauty. As a university lecturer, she equips students with the scientific knowledge to understand climate and environmental crises, making complex topics accessible and engaging while emphasizing their urgency. |
