August 13, 2025 - 1:00-1:30 PM
Location: This is an online event. Register to receive the Zoom link and calendar invitation.
Intended Audience: Faculty, Instructors, Graduate Student Instructors, Academic Support Staff
In order for students to successfully participate in the peer review/feedback process they need to be specifically taught what the process entails. By attending this session you'll gain access to a bCourse module (with five edit-able units) that you can place in your own course site so that students can (asynchronously) learn and practice peer review/feedback skills which they can continue to improve and build on in your course, with your guidance.
Peer Review/Feedback assignments are:
-
One way to build community in your course
-
A way to discourage GenAI use when it is employed because of procrastination
-
An opportunity to add value for students who are attending your live (in class or online) sessions
-
A strategy that makes students active participants in the learning community rather than passive consumers
-
Appropriate in almost any discipline
-
A method for developing professional communication and collaboration skills
-
An opportunity for students to learn from diverse approaches and perspectives
-
A method for building confidence in students' ability to evaluate and improve ideas
-
A bridge between instructor feedback and self-assessment skills
The skills we've always known are important - critical thinking, communication, and collaborative evaluation - are actually more valuable than ever now, in the midst of GenAI's rapid emergence. By preparing students to practice nuanced judgment, empathy, and collaborative problem-solving skills you'll be empowering them to navigate their own education experience.
This session will run for 20 minutes, with an additional 10 minutes reserved for questions.
