New bCourses Feature for Differentiated Instruction

August 6, 2024

Modules, module items, pages, and ungraded discussions can now be assigned to everyone, specific sections, or individual students in bCourses. These updates are intended to improve the ability to differentiate instruction of their course content.

What’s new

Entire Module “Assign To…” Setting. By default, modules are still assigned and visible to everyone in the course, but instructors can now assign individual students or specific sections to an entire module or individual module items. You can add multiple students and sections when determining who to assign the content to.

Note: Content that is assigned via a module will include a note in the individual Assign Access card that the assignee has been inherited from that module:

Module Item “Assign To…” Setting. On the Modules page, you can now assign existing module items to students or sections. You can also assign module content items by editing the item as an assignment, quiz, or discussion.

Note: If you assign a student only a specific item within a module (not the entire module), they cannot view any items in the module. However, they can access their assigned module item on the Assignments page.
