Canvas Import bug impacts bCourses content imported between 6/19/24 and 6/27/24

July 10, 2024

Between June 19 and June 27, 2024, did you do an import of bCourses content (e.g. from a previous course) that contained Kaltura media ? If so, the embeds may not function in the imported content due to a Canvas bug, if you used the “Select specific content” option (instead of the alternative "All content"):

If you did such an import, you will want to check the content you imported: If it was affected by the bug, the entire home page of your course site will display in the region of the page where the Kaltura content should be. An error message, "Couldn't find valid settings for this link", will appear briefly when the page first loads.

To resolve the issue, you will need to either 1) reimport at least one item that you imported when you selected your “specific content” OR 2) edit the impacted content to re-embed the Kaltura media, using the instructions in "How do I embed Kaltura media in bCourses using the Rich Content Editor?". (If you imported multiple items, the first option is fastest but you will only want to use it if you haven’t made subsequent edits on any of your imported pages.)  If you need help with this, please email kalturahelp@berkeley.edu.
