The College of Engineering and the Center for Teaching and Learning invite you to join an interactive three-workshop module as a part of the EMPOWER Certificate Program. This module, Equitable Grading Strategies, will focus on practices for supporting student learning and development, and on promoting equity in instruction and grading. Workshops are scheduled for Wednesdays February 23, March 2 and March 9, 2022, from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. PT via Zoom.

Session 1: What’s in a grade?

In Session 1, participants will investigate the role and value of grades in students' learning processes and experiences and examine ways in which grading practices can exacerbate inequities. Participants will also begin to explore "alternative" grading strategies and related research on student learning.

Session 2: What approaches can support equitable grading?

In Session 2, participants will collaboratively compare and contrast equity-minded grading frameworks and identify an opportunity to adjust a method of assessment in their teaching contexts.

Session 3: How can I apply equitable grading strategies in my teaching practice?

In Session 3, participants will build on previous conversations in reflecting on equitable grading practices and collaboratively workshopping and developing strategies to implement in their teaching contexts.

Please RSVP via this form by Monday, February 21st at 5:00 p.m.
