Instructors Getting Started
2026 Updates
- Check out our Technology Refresh Updates and Roadmap to see where we are with installing our new Flex classroom standard. This Spring we installed 26 new classrooms and a 400 seat auditorium in the new Undergraduate Academic Building as well as a renovated classroom, McCone 141.
- All of the general assignment classrooms (that are not slated for decommission in 2026) are now Course Capture and video conference capable!
Before the Start of the Semester
- Once you receive your classroom assignment, visit our Classroom Database to review the technology available in the room as well as user guides and helpful videos on using the equipment.
- Schedule a classroom consultation to learn how to use the technology in your assigned classroom. Please note we are not able to schedule consultations during the first 2 weeks of classes due to the volume of semester startup activities.
- If you are teaching in a space with Course Capture capabilities, please visit our Course Capture Service to learn more about this service.
- Assigned to a departmental space? We can still help.
- Check out our Departmental Spaces page to get guidance and resources in planning for enhanced live stream and lesson recording capacity in departmental classrooms and other learning spaces.
- If your classroom does not include technology that supports your instructional needs, we may be able to help with our Instructional Equipment Checkout service.
- Schedule a consultation with us if you need further guidance.

Classroom Tech Support Accessibility
Assistive Listening Systems and Devices are used to aid people who are hard of hearing. Research, Teaching, and Learning supports this equipment for classes and events taking place on UC Berkeley's campus.
Assistive Listening System (ALS)
In a number of general assignment classrooms on campus, assistive listening systems have been installed. These are infrared-based Sennheiser SI 1015 ALS systems.
The Classroom Database offers a full list of equipment available, including information about ALS availability, in each general assignment classroom.
Resources for Instructors Teaching at UC Berkeley
If you are teaching in one of the general assignment classrooms with assistive listening systems installed on campus, we recommend that you use the microphone available in the room to ensure that students are able to hear you. If you have any questions about support for assistive listening devices, you can:
- Contact Classroom Technology Support for a free consultation about self-service options in General Assignment classrooms where an ALS is installed - please submit your consultation request at least five business days in advance to ensure that we can offer you as many options as possible
If you have questions about teaching students with disabilities, please visit the following web page from Disabled Students' Program (DSP):
Resources for Instructors, Staff, and Departments
If you are a staff member or an instructor that needs an assistive listening device outside of curricular instruction, your options are:
- Request Berkeley AV event support to have equipment delivered and set up by Berkeley AV Events Services for a fee - please submit your event support request at least five business days in advance as services are scheduled on a first come, first served basis
- Request Services from Disability Access and Compliance (DAC) with an option of trying out tools from their Lending Library
- Talk to your department about the options listed above for department events
For staff and instructor work-related accommodations, you can:
- Contact Disability Management Services for more information, including confidential consultation, about staff disability accommodations
Student Resources
Students should contact their DSP Specialist to discuss accommodation options.
