Overview
BOA (Berkeley Online Advising) is a platform for academic advisors that unifies student data from multiple campus services, and provides advisors with new tools to access information that supports student success. BOA was developed in partnership between the Vice Chancellor of Undergraduate Education, CalCentral/Student Information Systems, and Research, Teaching, and Learning, and was made available to campus advisors in August 2019. BOA functionality includes access to real-time student performance data from bCourses, access to advising notes from systems that were previously siloed to individual departments, and the ability to create new advising notes in an enhanced interface.

All undergraduate academic advisors (major advisors and college advisors) as well as non-advisor users of CalCentral/SIS Advising Notes are automatically granted BOA access. Full BOA access, including the ability to create and view advising notes, is limited to staff with the SIS Co-Curricular Advisor or Curricular Advisor role. Users with Advisor View access can access BOA, but do not have access to advising notes. SIS/BOA advising tool access can be requested at: https://sis.berkeley.edu/system-access by selecting the appropriate role in the “Academic Advisor” section. BOA access is automatically updated nightly to add or remove users as needed.
