Title II’s digital accessibility mandates triggered rapid higher education responses, but urgency often creates fragmented resources and isolated efforts. To build lasting momentum, UC Berkeley designed an ecosystem approach that connects training teams and creates multiple entry points for faculty learning. Moving beyond quick fixes, this framework integrates accessibility into routine teaching practices, enabling collaborative problem-solving, broader program reach, and long-term institutional resilience.
These four professional learning initiatives are currently in development across RTL Commons, each addressing instructional accessibility needs from a different angle. Individually, each program is valuable, but together – with intentional coordination – they form a coherent, tiered ecosystem that serves a broad range of faculty needs, maximizes institutional impact, and creates a compelling response to ADA Title II that goes well beyond compliance training.
