UC Berkeley is implementing a new course retention policy for bCourses sites, which means academic course sites will now be retained for seven years before being automatically removed each June. The first phase of temporary archiving begins in June 2027 (for courses from AY 2013–14 through 2019–20). Join this information session to get a clear overview of the policy timeline and learn your options for course content preservation.
In this session, we will walk instructors through how to:
- Export and save course content and student records for your own long-term storage.
- Migrate materials to an active bCourses Project Site.
- Submit an opt-out request if your site qualifies for preservation.
This session will run for 30 minutes, with an additional 15 minutes reserved for questions.

Facilitator:
Catherine McChrystal (she/her) is the Learning Tools Team Lead and lead administrator for bCourses. In this role, she works to understand instructor needs to influence service improvement projects for supported academic technologies. She holds a master's degree in Educational Technology and is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Learning & Instruction. Prior to joining RTL, she served as an instructional designer at UC Berkeley and as the training program lead for the YouTube Policy team.
