Assistive Listening Systems and Devices are used to aid people who are hard of hearing. Research, Teaching, and Learning supports this equipment for classes and events taking place on UC Berkeley's campus.
Assistive Listening System (ALS) Locations
In a number of general assignment classrooms on campus, assistive listening systems have been installed. These are infrared-based Sennheiser SI 1015 ALS systems.
The Classroom Database offers a full list of equipment available, including information about ALS availability, in each general assignment classroom.
Faculty Resources
If you are teaching in one of the general assignment classrooms with assistive listening systems installed on campus, we recommend that you use the microphone available in the room to ensure that students are able to hear you. If you have any questions about support for assistive listening devices, you can:

If your class is scheduled in a campus space that does not have an ALS installed, you can:
- Check out a portable system with transmitter, receiver(s), and headset(s) for free. Please submit your request at least two business days in advance.
- Williams Sound Personal PA T35 FM Transmitter Kit, including:
- Four FM receivers - Model PPA R37
- One wired microphone
- Optional: Wireless microphone is available upon request
