On July 14, 2026, an updated Turnitin End-User License Agreement (EULA) takes effect. All end users (instructors and students) will be prompted to accept the updated EULA when they next log in to Turnitin on or after July 14, 2026. These updates remain subject to UC Berkeley’s Master Registration Agreement (MRA) with Turnitin, data protection terms, and UC Terms & Conditions.
Turnitin’s updated EULA includes a new section on artificial intelligence (AI) tools and the use of instructor and student data. UC Berkeley’s Master Registration Agreement with Turnitin incorporates the University of California Terms & Conditions of Purchase, which do not permit the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems with UC Institutional Information. Therefore, some of the terms in the updated End-User License Agreement do not apply to UC Berkeley users.
Instructors
Turnitin has added a new section on AI tools to their End-User License Agreement that states that, by using the platform, instructors consent to Turnitin processing their input for improving or developing AI tools and other products, features, or services. This portion of the agreement does not apply to UC Berkeley users based on the UC Terms & Conditions.
Students
Turnitin has added a new section on AI tools to their End-User License Agreement that states that Turnitin may use student submissions (in aggregated, anonymized, and/or de-identified form) for improving or developing AI tools and other products, features, or services. This portion of the agreement does not apply to UC Berkeley users based on the UC Terms & Conditions.
