Changes coming to the Zoom to Kaltura Integration on January 6

December 12, 2025

RTL is changing the way the Zoom to Kaltura integration works. Starting on January 6, 2026, Zoom cloud recordings will be copied to Kaltura *only* for users that have indicated that they need this integration to continue to function in order to accomplish their instructional goals.

Why the change?

RTL needs to reduce storage usage for Kaltura recordings. Currently, the Zoom to Kaltura integration automatically copies all Zoom cloud recordings to Kaltura for users with Kaltura accounts—which is most of campus. This results in large volumes of unnecessary recordings that many users do not need or even realize are being stored. Due to storage and budget constraints, we must limit use of this integration to those who need it for instructional purposes.

What action do I need to take?

If your use of the Zoom to Kaltura integration is instructional, you can add yourself to the pool of users for which the integration will continue to work. To do so, you must take  the following two steps:

  1. Go to your Kaltura profile page (you’ll be prompted to log in via calnet).

  2. From the vertical ellipses icon (which you’ll find to the right of the Edit Profile button), choose “Copy Zoom Cloud to Kaltura (instructional use only)” and then “Yes”.

Once “Yes” is checked, you will be included in the list of users for whom the integration will work starting on January 6. (This change will have no impact on the way the integration works between now and January 6.)

Only if you take the above two steps, will the Zoom to Kaltura integration continue to work as described on our Zoom to Kaltura Frequently Asked Questions page. (If you do nothing,  the integration will cease to work for your Zoom Cloud recordings on January 6, 2026. You can take the above steps after January 6 in order to have the integration start working for any *future* recordings.)

Note: If you are unable to complete step 2, please email kalturahelp@berkeley.edu with your request to continue to be a user of the Zoom to Kaltura integration.
