This fall semester Research, Teaching, & Learning Commons is hosting Beyond the Syllabus: GenAI Dialogues, a series of facilitated dialogues between faculty and students to consider ways GenAI is affecting teaching and learning at the university. The purpose of this series is to foster open communication between faculty and students about GenAI, providing space where both can speak candidly and build stronger connections and a clearer understanding of the core values activated within Berkeley classrooms.
Each session will feature small group conversations between faculty and students facilitated by staff in the Undergraduate Division. There will be three sessions during the fall 2026 semester, held in the Academic Innovation Studio, 127 Dwinelle Hall. The sessions will be in-person only.
The session dates and topics are:
- Monday Sept. 14, 2-3:30pm: Trust and Community-Building in the Age of GenAI
How has GenAI’s influence shaped how students and faculty experience trust in the classroom environment? - Monday Oct. 19, 2-3:30pm: Sharing Impacts of GenAI on Teaching and Learning
How has GenAI shaped the ways students and faculty experience class time? - Monday Nov. 16, 2-3:30pm: What Our Classrooms Need
What might it look like to have meaningful learning in an age of GenAI?
Registration Process:
In order to provide equitable access to the programming, those interested should complete the Beyond the Syllabus: GenAI Dialogues interest form by midnight on Sunday, August 30th. Participants will be selected for each date via a lottery and notified no later than Wednesday September 2nd.
